Time Travel : Is it possible?
65Please forgive my general ignorance and naivity when it comes to the reality and current theories of time travel. The likes of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking would be infinitley more qualified that i to lecture you on the paradoxs and relative benifits of this subject. I really have to state my opinion on this subject. I don`t believe that time travel by a living human is possible, It should never be undertaken and there is no way we would ever know that something had been changed as time would surely just auto-correct itself.
Time travel has been widely explored in the media, in films there has been Timecop, Back to the future, Terminator, 12 monkeys and time bandits. In televsion we have had Quantum Leap, Startrek, Babylon Five, Sliders and numerous others. All the films or series mention their is a cause and effect when dealing with time, but i feel they downplay the potential negative side of time travel.Although in Startrek Voyager i remember them doing a two part storyline about an alien race who remove their rivals from time but end up destroying their own race through their actions.
Do you believe time travel is possible?
See results without votingIs there a chance that if Time Travel is possible that Time travel could become the next holiday destination? Could you imagine deciding to go on a short break to 1712AD? I wonder what time and destination would be the most popular? There would be a Billion people crowded into a stable courtyard in Bethlehem in4AD or would the Grassy Knoll be flooded with time tourists in 1963. Personally I would like to be in the Roman senate to see the end of Julius Caeser.
There is of course a moral dilemma to time travel, could you imagine if you went back in time to Pre-Second World War Germany and bumped into a struggling Austrian artist called Adolf Hitler. I think 99% of the people who would have the chance would kill him in cold blood where he stood. For killing just one man you could save 6,000,000 Jews from murder, millions of soviet soldiers, Thousands of allied service personel and countless innocent citizens killed my indiscriminate bombing of their homes and factories. In some way you would also stop the dropping of Nuclear weapons on Imperial Japan, all for just one small murder.
In this timeline we excist in you would be a hero to the world. But in reality would you not just be a killer of an innocent artist. Your actions would stop the Second World War from happening the way it did but it would not guarantee it from happening. Under a different Fuhrer maybe the Nazi`s would have won.The Temperal mechanics of morality are completely mind blowing.
On a personal note, if there was no Second World War. It is highly unlikely my Grandma and Grandad would have met and married as before the war broke out my grandma was engaged to a soldier who died in battle. This would have meant my dad would not have been concieved and by default i would not have excisted. And in turn my children would not have ever been concieved.
As time is constant and linear to us, i really doubt we would ever be able to travel back in time. And i imagine anyone who did get sent back would be traumatized or mentally scrambled. I speculate that if a can of Coke was sent back through time, it would appear twisted, exploded and unrecognisable. So if time travel ever comes true, i think i will go head to the back of the queue as quite frankly it scares me. For the moment it belongs to the realm of Science Fiction and theoretical papers. Still it is an interesting topic and not without the potential to answer alot of unanswered questions in life.

If time travel was possible it would have been done already; proof would be essential. Take it easy on the Science Fiction, we still have men in white coats.

Maybe we have but they aren't making themselves known.
